PATCHESThey didn't like this at all. They were in a town-- which was great, don't get them wrong. Their siblings loved the town setup, there were more creatures around to befriend for Ald; more adventures to be held for Bon; and every town needed a good healer, which Fireflies had lapped right up. But Patches didn't really have anyplace to go, in this town. The friendly setup wasn't... right for them. Of course, their siblings were happy, so they were semi-happy, but there were more creatures who could harm them. And more creatures who could take them away!
Patches had spent the latter half of their life, everything after the meteor, protecting their siblings. When the three were hurt, Patches was always there to get revenge and justice. Now that they lived in a village, that was... less needed. Patches had been sent out today, with Bonfire promising to watch over Ald and Fireflies, to make a friend, or find a job. Neither of which they wanted to do, but both of which they had to before Fireflies, Ald, and Bon would let them back in the house again.
Patches had decided that walking through the square could get them the easiest friends, as that's where creatures usually went, they had been told. So they were walking along through the town square, quietly, while their tininess made them feel... different. Unhappy. Because every other creature they could see wasn't tiny. It had always been more of a letdown when they were around others, a reminder that they were next to nothing compared to them. Less than unimportant. Mother had always reminded them that they were her 'little ray of sun', but she was gone now. And all Patches had left was their siblings, who were all taller than them. But that didn't stop Patches from trying to protect them with all of their little might.
Aldara, Bonfire, and Fireflies were everything to them. They had to make their siblings happy. Otherwise... what would they do if their siblings were to leave? They had nothing without their siblings. Maybe having friends would be good.

After moving into this town a few years ago Nebula had barely even spoken to his neighbours, which was surprising considering how many people live on one floor of an apartment building. Anyway as the dog trotted through the square he shoved away all of his linger dislike of being this close to strangers and moved faster. Nebula continued to think of how he had no friends to date and frowned, making a resolution to speak to whichever creature next caught his eye. A tiny white cat with odd patches of fur on his body caught his eye - damn it, I thought I wold at least be able to have a drink before acting on this silly promise. A deep breath and he trotted over, tail wagging slightly before standing besides the cat. "Hi, I'm Nebula. Are y-you lost?" Mentally the dog cringed at his stutter and slapped himself with a pale paw. Why was he so socially inept? aldara Nebula needs friends too!

PATCHESA weird-looking dog walked by-- it seemed like it held the cosmos in it's very being. Which was cool and all, but really what made Patches notice the dog was that it had come up to them and talked. Of course, it was more than twice their size. And asking if they were lost. Well, maybe lost in their own thoughts, but not really lost in the real world. Patches supposed they should respond.
"Patches. And I'm not lost, just wandering. I'm not allowed to go home until I've gotten a friend and a job, according to my siblings, but according to me I have three perfectly good friends and a wonderful job. My siblings, and protecting them. And before you ask, I'm not a 'he' or a 'she', I'm agender." The cat grumbled, looking up as to see the dog's eyes. Stupid tininess, why couldn't they have gotten Ald's wings? No, no. Aldara deserves those wings, you don't. You got even more than you deserved. The meteor should've just turned you into dust, that would've been what you deserved. They thought to themself, feeling their front green paw sinking again.
Patches rebalanced themself, annoyed with the paw as usual. It sank every once in a while because of the whole 'full of stuffing' thing, but usually it wasn't too bad. Back to observing the weird dog. It had a necklace-- that could be cool, getting a necklace. Or maybe an edgy peircing. Could they even get their ears peirced? Maybe a bracelet. The dog also had weird wraps around its-- his --legs. And a cool collar. Patches sat down, doing their best to seem tall, but was really... less than adequete. Still small.

The small cat looked up at him and Nebula did his best to bend down without seeming like he was leering at the smaller animal. Patches, that is an oddly suiting name for him. Well he has just made a friend, whether he likes it or not and I am sure I could find a job for someone of his... stature. Hmmm preach boy, family is everything. Aw Heck AW HECK aW hEck Now I feel bad for calling hi- THEM a he in my head. He took a closer look at the cat, at first he thought the patches to be decorative but... they appeared to be part of him, was his insides stuffing too? "Well the flower shop I manage has some positions and you can count me as a friend - i-if you want th-that is!" He stumbled over the last bit with a wince. He really just wanted to go home and play some online D&D. aldara Nebula manages a flower shop now

PATCHESOh? Nebula agreed with them. That was new. Nobody other than their siblings ever agreed with them. Well, Patches supposed they should respond in kind to Nebula's-- they were already starting to think of him as Nebby oh dear Diren(1) why --suggestion. A flower shop, huh? That could be interesting. They could play a game they had played when first having these patches, and try and match flower colors to the patch colors. Aldara had always laughed when she saw them covered in flowers. Patches smiled at the memory, but then shook their head briefly to bring themself back to reality.
And reality was that they didn't deserve Aldara's laughs. Not after what they had done to protect Ald. Not at all, really. But before they could stop themselves, words were tumbling out of their mouth. "We only just met why are you being so nice to me come to think of it why are you even talking to me? I mean, having a job at the flower shop would be great and all, but why? It's not like we've ever met before, or like you owe me something, right? I would've remembered meeting someone like you before."
Oh dear Diren, that's even worse than thinking of him as Nebby. He's not a sibling. QUIT IT! You can fix this, right? RIGHT? You don't deserve the job, you don't deserve the friend, and you need to quit calling him Nebby in your head. He's Nebula. Besides, what if it's a trap? Fireflies would say this was a trap, but Bonfire would be totally in, and Aldara would just smile at him cheerfully whatdoIdoohDirenohnonono... His mind raced through all the issues with what he had just said, and he tried to stamp out the 'Nebby', but of course the nickname had already stuck. Why had he played Pokemon Moon UGH.
Diren is the magical cat quartet's version of saying things like 'Oh my God', instead they would say 'Oh my Diren'. NOTE: They are all atheist, Diren is just the strongest and most powerful being they've met. And I can't say more because SPOILERS for their history~ Also can't elaborate on those awful things, because EVEN MORE SPOILERS!

Ohnoohnoohnoohnohe-theyaregoingtoquestionme It was an odd assortment of words that tumbled from the cats mouth and Nebula roughly saw the gist as "Why should I trust you?" and his whole mind went into overdrive trying to answer this. The fluffy dog shifted from paw to paw and let his fringe cover the top half of his eyes as he thought. I really want them to work with me. Is that because they are the only real person I have maintained any conversation beyond 'please' and 'thank you' with in almost six months? Probably."W-well I mean, y-you said your siblings wanted you to find a friend and j-job and I can provide both to you and just thought that it w-would be an appreciated gesture. It's nice to be nice, r-right?" Nebula stuttered and stumbled over his words in a way that made his whole face burn with shame beneath the fur as he awkwardly stood there, feeling dwarfed in comparison to the tiny being before him. Again he shifted his weight between his paws and flicked his fringe from his eyes with a jerk of the head, staring at the ground to the right of Patches head. aldara

PATCHESThe cat began to fret as it seemed that xe had upset Nebby. Xe hadn't meant to! Oh dear Diren what have I done?! It was my only shot at making a friend, and I messed it up! This is all a big mess, what am I gonna do oh no.... You'll have to make it up to Nebby. That's all you can do. Take his job, and try to explain why you don't exactly trust others anymore.
"I'm sorry Nebula, it's not you. I haven't fully trusted anyone but my siblings in a long time, not since... him. My best friend once stabbed me in the back, and since then... well, trust just hasn't been the same." Patches sighed, curling xyr tail around xemself in an attempt to hide his shame. The backpatch that was usually folded over a smaller stitch, close to the edge, unfolded slightly. Xe carefully looked towards the ground, a small tear running down xyr cheek. Totem... I never knew why. Why did you do it, Totem? Why?
By the time xe had come back to reality, xyr cloth paw was soaked, of course. Patches shook xyr head again, laughing hollowly. A tactic xe had often seen Ald use when she walked in on Bon and Fireflies talking about Totem. Xe stood up, and turned.
"Sorry, I'm wasting your time. I should go--"
Okay so FRIGGIN SADNESS I wanted this to be a floofpost, but instead Patches started crying from his good eye, because SADNESS is a FUN THING TO WRITE but anyways, FEELS WARNING ARRGH

He watched for a stunned moment as the cat opened up to him, they told him about how their friend had stabbed them in the back and they found it hard to trust anyone. Nebula noticed how they somehow made themself smaller by wrapping their tail around their feet. AhHhHhH What do I say? They are obviously upset and - OH NO THEY ARE CRYING the sudden appearance of tears shocked Nebula even more, why did he deserve to have Patches open up to him? Snapped back into life by Patches empty void of a laugh, used to cover their emotions, Nebula bounded in front of them once they had turned. The purple dog didn't even notice himself to be interrupting the smaller animal as he announced in an almost dangerous voice "Don't you ever try to tell me you are wasting my time." and then in a softer tone he asked the patched cat a question "Would you like to see the shop?"aldara

PATCHESNebula blocked him off, and Patches blinked once. This was... interesting. Xe had completely ruined the chance for a friendship when xe started crying, right? Whatever. Xyr front paw was sinking, again, and xe readjusted xyr weight to compensate, again. Oh great, xyr ear was sinking-- why did this happen at the most annoying of times?
Patches used xyr tail to readjust the stuffing in xyr ear, so that it stood up properly. Nebby was talking about how xe wasn't a waste of time, and asking about if Patches wanted to see the flower shop. It would be the least xe could do to accept, Patches decided. So xe nodded, gently and quietly.
"Sorry about my patches. From what we can figure, they're covering stuffing and the stuffing is so malleable. It's quite annoying. Mostly it doesn't matter, but with my ear and my paw, it's just bad. Doesn't usually happen too often, today just seems to be a bad day." Xe explained, using xyr tail to wipe away the remainders of the tears from his good eye. The button eye he could see through, but it was a weird kind of sight, with the x covering it. "But yeah, I'd like to see the shop."
Ah, the struggles of being part stuffed animal~

Nebula noticed with a sharp eye how Patches ear and paw seemed to... sink? So either it was intentional or there was stuffing inside the animal. The tiny cats next statement seemed to confirm the latter. He wiped away excess tears, that was good, it meant the crying was over. He wanted to see the shop, Nebula smiled and beckoned with his head for the patched feline to follow him as he started to meander off to his right. After about ten seconds of walking the shop attacked their eyes with its bright colours. The shop itself was a dull, slightly chipped off green colour but a variety of vivid flowers stood arranged neatly in front of the store and in its window. Gazing down at the cute cat (cute only in size, of course) and grinned shyly but proudly for he had done the flower arrangements himself this morning and, for some reason, desperately wanted Patches to be impressed by his pawy-work. "It is pretty, yes?"aldara

PATCHESThey walked for a few seconds, awkward silence being still in the air, before Patches saw the Shop. Xe had to take a step back, to make sure what xe was seeing wasn't part of xyr imagination. The shop was more multicolored than even Patches. It was beautiful, so colorful and bright in these mostly gray streets. Nebby asked if xe liked it.
"Are you kidding?! This is amazing! I absolutely love it, Nebula." Xe spoke from xyr heart, smiling truly at xyr... friend. Xe had made a friend. Patches turned to smile at Nebby, the part of xyr face that xe could 'control' completely happy. "It's the best thing I've seen since, well, since I left my old home. The forest there was just as great, but then again I do love any forests."
That was an awkward way to say what you were trying to say. You could've just said it was great and been done with it. Xe thought to xemself, annoyed with how weird it had sounded. Xe really didn't want to make it sound like Nebby was second-best, xe just liked forests. And the flower shop reminded xem of xyr old home, that's why xe had brought it up!

A solid blush would have made itself apparent on Nebulas cheeks if it wasn't for the fur that he thanked to world for for the millionth time since meeting the tiny cat. ugh, I am painfully gay he groaned internally as he watched Patches eyes light up. It was wonderful seeing the seemingly glum cat get so excited about a flower shop. It warmed his heart to be complimented by xem, a compliment to his shop was a compliment to his skills after all. "I did the arrangements myself, I am glad they put you at ease." Nebula mumbled shyly, perhaps leaving the house was a better option than playing Pokémon. He moved to the door and opened it, a slight chime of the brass bell above him coaxing a true smile, he was home now. Moving behind the counter he said something about finding a uniform to fit Patches. Bustling around under the counter he rifled through a box of faded great aprons with a soft pink or baby blue rose stitched into the right side depending on whether you were male or female. He pulled out a tiny pink rosed one and sighed in defeat. "Th-this one should fit, I will take it to the seamstress and have the rose put in in a neutral colour." before smiling weekly at the smaller animal, rubbing his arm bands anxiously. What if we was offended by the set colouring of the uniform? aldara

PATCHESThe cat-- if you can really call xem that --smiled as they went into the shop. Xe had never seen anything so bright or colorful before! Well, except xemself. And xe didn't particularly like to look in a mirror. Xe was a particularly weird tinge of a brownish green. Something that just didn't fit in with the rest of the world-- creatures were either tinged green or tinged red, not tinged a color in between. Except for Patches, that was. Patches was the weird color, and that made xym REALLY WORRIED and insecure.
"It's okay. Loads of the time things like this happen, people and creatures commonly think of me as he or she, and the stuff that fits me is usually girls' stuff cause I'm so small." Xe muttered under xyr breath. It really wasn't alright. But xe always said it was, because nobody else really needed to hear how much it bothered xym. Really, was it so hard to stock neutral colored clothes every once in a while? In ALL sizes? You'd think that'd be the better way to go, but NO it was always boy or girl. That was mainly the reason that xe had quit playing Pokemon, to be fair.
Poor guy. But he's gotten good at lying over the years. Don't worry about him, it'll explode later.

Guilt swept over the dog as his ears and fur flattened to his body. Patches seemed too stiff in xer self for it to really be fine. Nebula followed his fur and flattened, moving closer to the floor besides the cat. He awkwardly hovered there fiddling with the soft grey apron. Eyeing the feline Nebula coughed uncertainly "Y'know, we were considering changing the uniforms so colour dictates rank rather than gender..." oh god what am I doing. Xe was just getting to like me I am sure. What do I do now? Invite him to my place? What for? Tea? Why? New uniforms? When? Now? No. Later this week? Yes, after xe has had a few shifts? Yes!"Perhaps this friday you could help me design them..?" He spoke softly though extremely cautiously. aldara
